Burgo Group at the Italy’s National Conference on the Circular Economy 2025

On 15 May, the 7th National Conference on the Circular Economy took place in Rome, focusing on the current status and prospects of circularity in Italy.

Burgo Group participated in the seventh Italy’s National Conference on the Circular Economy, organised by the Circular Economy Network and ENEA, with the support of the Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile (Sustainable Development Foundation). It was an opportunity for institutions, companies, and the research world to take stock of the circular economy in Italy in light of the challenges posed by the ecological transition and the most recent EU policies.

The Report on the Circular Economy and Italy's Performance

The conference featured the presentation of the seventh Report on the Circular Economy in Italy, confirming that the country ranks at the top in Europe for the efficient use of resources, recycling, and productivity.
The document emphasises the importance of accelerating the transition to a circular model to enhance the competitiveness of businesses and the 'Made in Italy' brand. According to an estimate by Cassa Depositi e Prestiti (the Italian National Promotional Institution), the adoption of circular practices is expected to generate €16.4 billion in savings for manufacturing companies by 2024. The European Commission estimates that the annual savings in energy costs for the 27 EU countries, achievable by adopting more circular models, will be €45 billion.

The paper industry in the ecological transition

Among the sectors most involved in the ecological transition, the paper industry plays a strategic role. During the conference, Valerio Forti, HSE Director of Burgo Group, delivered a speech titled ‘Circular Economy and Industrial Competitiveness: Good Practices and Success Stories.’

The paper industry is at the forefront of the ongoing change. Sustainability is now a global imperative, with increasingly stringent regulations and even more demanding consumers. In this context, integrating ESG principles is no longer an option but a necessity for safeguarding the future. The Burgo Group, with its GO 2030 program, has undertaken an ambitious path. The transformation of the business model, the adoption of circular economy practices, and the reduction of environmental impact require significant investments, technological innovation, and a radical change in mindset. The sector must face these challenges with determination and awareness because the future depends on the ability to adapt and innovate sustainably.”
