Energy efficiency: people’s engagement is the most powerful dynamo
Burgo Group’s approach to energy efficiency is guided by its Energy Management System, which is certified to the European ISO 50001 standard. The system provides the framework for analysing energy consumption, identifying opportunities for improvement, and planning targeted actions to optimise energy use.
Within this operational framework, three initiatives give tangible form to the commitment of the Group and of those who work within the Group: Efficiency First, Burgo Energy Award, and MenoMegawatt.
Efficiency First
The Efficiency First project aims to achieve an annual energy saving of 3% through proposals and actions initiated directly by the plants. It is a highly participatory technical programme that values local expertise and promotes a shared approach to innovation.
Burgo Energy Award
The Burgo Energy Award aims to engage all Group employees, encouraging new ideas for energy efficiency, and awarding the most effective ones.
Now in its third edition, the initiative has become a cornerstone of the Group’s sustainability and innovation journey, serving as a key driver in spreading an energy-saving culture.
Significant projects — delivering measurable results in terms of efficiency and sustainability — have been developed from the proposals submitted in past editions of the Burgo Energy Award.
MenoMegawatt
The MenoMegawatt working group provides a platform for sharing and transferring experience across the Group’s production sites. Through MenoMegawatt, teams analyse completed projects, discuss the benefits and challenges encountered, and explore in depth key energy-related issues across the company.
Together, these three initiatives form an integrated system that brings together method, participation, and knowledge — a model of continuous improvement that makes Burgo Group increasingly efficient, sustainable, and competitive.
Reducing carbon dioxide emissions and improving energy efficiency are key steps to fight climate change and, in the long term, reduce operating costs while maintaining market competitiveness.
