PAPER POWER PASSION
RicicloAperto 2026

Burgo Group takes part in Paper Week 2026: in Avezzano, recycling comes to life for students

On the occasion of Paper Week 2026, Burgo Group opened the doors of its Avezzano mill to a group of local students, offering them a hands-on experience to discover paper recycling and the principles of the circular economy.

Students visiting Burgo’s Avezzano mill during RicicloAperto 2026 observe recovered paper bales destined for recycling into containerboard production.

The initiative took place as part of RicicloAperto, the project organised by Comieco that gives visitors access to key locations across the paper supply chain, offering a close-up view of how paper and cardboard are given new life.

During the day on 16 April 2026, students visited the Avezzano mill and observed the main stages of the production cycle, with particular attention to fibre recovery and reuse. The visit provided a concrete opportunity to understand the value of separate collection and its role within a circular production model.

Paper Week and RicicloAperto

Promoted by Comieco and supported by the Italian Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Education and Merit, ANCI and Utilitalia, Paper Week is Italy’s largest national event dedicated to education and information on paper, cardboard and their recycling, with hundreds of initiatives taking place across the country.

Within this programme, RicicloAperto represents its most direct and participatory moment: thematic museums, paper mills, paper converting companies and waste management facilities open their doors to show, in a transparent way, the technologies, processes and solutions that make industrial-scale recycling possible.

Burgo Group’s commitment

The Avezzano mill is a concrete example of Burgo Group’s commitment to developing recyclable products and using resources efficiently, in line with the principles of the circular economy and with the objective of reducing environmental impact.

“Opening the doors of our mill to students is an important moment of sharing and responsibility for us. We believe that promoting a culture of recycling, especially among younger generations, is essential to building a more sustainable future. Our participation in RicicloAperto confirms our commitment to promoting an increasingly efficient, innovative and environmentally conscious supply chain.”
— Francesco Maiorani, Head of Human Resources, Burgo Avezzano

Through initiatives like this, Burgo Group strengthens its dialogue with local communities and helps raise awareness of the value of recycling and the importance of responsible behaviours.
